Angelina College’s School of Visual and Performing Arts on Thursday welcomed its new and returning scholarship recipients in a “Signing Day” ceremony held inside the Angelina Center for the Arts building.

More than 20 future artists from throughout East Texas were on-hand with friends and family to celebrate their entries into one of the four major arts divisions: Visual and Graphic Arts, Theater, Choir and Music.

AC’s arts programs have a history of developing student talents for both personal growth and professional opportunities.

Beckie Compton, Chair of AC’s Visual and Performing Arts division, said the Signing Day continues to be a source of excitement for all those involved.

“It’s exciting to see all the support from the families and friends who come here with the students,” Compton said. “It’s also exciting to see students making a progression in their education and continuing that track.

“But it’s also very exciting to see how our (VPA faculty and staff) efforts rewarded. Actions are rewarded, and not intentions. It’s so good to see our hard work paying off in the growth of our programs.”

Following is the list of students (with hometowns of record), their chosen programs and the corresponding instructors:

Visual Arts (Le’Anne Alexander, instructor): Gabrielle Wallace (Central HS, Lufkin); Alejandra Rodriguez (Lufkin); Addison Martin (Lufkin); Natalie Green (Huntington); Elizabeth Goodwin (Lead Academy) and MacKenna Shores (Lufkin).
