Public Invited to Attend Feb. 23 Tribute
AC News Service
Dr. Larry Phillips served as Angelina College president – just the second president in AC history – for 24 years before retiring in 2015. His tenure as president saw the college’s overall growth and reach expand far beyond Angelina County, and his visions for the institution helped shape Angelina College into an East Texas foundation for building and changing lives.
Phillips passed away on January 27, 2025, leaving behind a lasting legacy for his family, the college and the entire community.
On Sunday, Feb. 23, Angelina College will pay tribute to Phillips with a memorial service honoring his life and contributions, and the public is invited. Fittingly, the tribute will take place inside AC’s Shands Gymnasium, where Phillips spent time rooting for the Roadrunners and Lady Roadrunners even after his retirement.
The service is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
