Visiting Artist: Jacob Taylor Gibson Reception
Feb | ACA Gallery | 6 PM
Through printmaking, ceramic sculpture, and installation, the artist will share works that are greatly influenced through childhood experience. Growing up in a now-impoverished town in Louisiana, Gibson took visual note of the state of his dwelling; a broken, leaking, and collapsing home, which seemed to emulate the flaws within his turbulent family life.
Like the dilapidated building, the abuse and the antiquated communication tools passed down over generations, his artwork is both nostalgic and indicative of the perpetuated grief and neglect he suffered. The artist describes his work as “populating a near facsimile of a space which exists only in memories.”
