Since 1989, the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA®) has provided Texas students and institutions of higher education with a flexible, fair, and accurate testing and score-reporting system. Its purpose is to assess the reading, mathematics, and writing skills that entering freshman-level students should have if they are to perform effectively in undergraduate certificate or degree programs in Texas public colleges or universities.
The THEA Test was approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, under Senate Bill 286, Texas Education Code, Section 51.3062: Texas Success Initiative, for use by Texas institutions of higher education as an assessment instrument to evaluate incoming students. It provides the diagnostic data required by this legislation; its content is the same as that of the former TASP Test.
The THEA Test is the only assessment developed specifically to evaluate the readiness of students for college-level coursework in Texas. It was developed through a rigorous review and approval process supported by skilled and experienced Texas educators. All THEA Test questions have been reviewed by committees of Texas educators to ensure content accuracy and to prevent potential bias.

You may register for THEA online at www.thea.nesinc.com or print & complete the registration form & mail with payment to the address provided. The Testing Center no longer receives THEA booklets.

If you need to take the THEA Test before the next regularly scheduled administration, the THEA Quick Test may be an option for you. See "THEA Quick Test" on the THEA Web site at www.thea.nesinc.com for more information.
The 2009–2010 test dates below are provided for your information. You will need to register at the THEA website: www.thea.nesinc.com or print the form from the website and mail it to the address provided. THEA no longer provides printed bulletins for registration.

The deadline for submission of requests and all necessary documentation for alternative testing arrangements is the regular registration deadline. Because of space, staff, and time constraints, there can be no assurance that requests received after this deadline can be accommodated. |

Internet Registration
All registration periods. To register on the Internet, your registration must be completed by 5:00 p.m. central time on the registration deadline for the period. |

*For the October test date only, the test will be administered at a limited number of sites throughout Texas. Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX and Collin County Community College in Plano are the closes sites to East Texas.
