2/3/2010 - Roadrunners Hold Off Bossier Parish BOSSIER CITY, LA. – Four offensive rebounds within the final minute proved crucial in allowing the Angelina College Roadrunners to escape Bossier City Wednesday night with a 94-91 win over the Bossier Parish Cavaliers. Antonio Holmes grabbed an offensive board off a missed free throw with the ‘Runners clinging to a 90-88 lead at the :58 mark, leading to a Trent Brantley put back of another miss for a four-point AC lead. Moments later, Travis Smith and Adrick McKinney chased down rebounds on the offensive end, with McKinney scoring on another put back leading to game-clinching free throws from Mike Timmins. All that scrambling around the glass ensured Takoby Jackson’s 30-point night wouldn’t go for naught. AC’s only sophomore connected on eight of his 11 three-point attempts, tallying 21 points by the end of the first half. In addition, Holmes offered his best game as a Roadrunner, finishing with 19 points that included a trio of highlight-reel dunks. Brantley finished with 16 points and McKinney 15, Mike Timmins dished out eight assists and Bamba Dioum chipped in nine rebounds in his 19 minutes on the floor. The Cavaliers (6-12, 1-11) got 20 points and 14 rebounds from Christian Larry, 16 points from Shun Wren and 13 points from Decorey Jones. The win moved the Roadrunners to 13-10, 7-5 and snapped a three-game losing streak. “Any road game in this conference is tough, and tonight wasn’t any different,” AC head coach Todd Neighbors said. “We got some big minutes from several guys, and we found a way to fight back after giving up a big lead. For some reason, we seem to let off the gas a little too much when we get ahead; but we were able to regroup and get the big plays we needed down the stretch.” Jackson scored 19 of AC’s first 25 points, hitting six of his eight threes from a variety of angles on the floor. The Roadrunners built a 13-point lead in the first half, only to see the Cavs battle back with a 12-2 run to tie the game at the half. The final 20 minutes featured seven ties and four lead changes before the Roadrunners were able to clinch the win late. Both the Lady Roadrunners and Roadrunners will be home against Blinn on Saturday. The games will feature Coaches vs. Cancer Night, in which all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.
