McLennan 73, Roadrunners 61

The Roadrunners put forth an impressive comeback effort after falling behind 22-2 by the 10:39 mark of the first half, closing to within five points midway through the second half.

But the Highlanders put together big shots when it counted most, allowing McLennan to escape with the 73-61 win Saturday in Waco.

Highlander Nafis Richardson led all scorers with 19 points, including a 7-for-8 effort from the free-throw line, to lead McLennan.

AC’s Takoby Jackson led the Roadrunners (2-1) with 14 points; Julien Bouil and Adrick McKinney added 12 each; and Joevoskie Mitchell finished with 10. Bouil also collected 11 rebounds to finish with his first double-double as a Roadrunner.

The Roadrunners fought their way out of a horrid shooting effort in the game’s first 10 minutes, with AC going 1-for-17 in that span. A steady effort over the rest of the half helped trim the McLennan lead to manageable figures, but the Highlanders used big buckets late from Richardson and Taylor Smith to hold off AC.

AC will host the Wiley College JV Tuesday night at Shands Gym in Lufkin.
