11/4/2009 - Lady Roadrunners Vs Eastern Oklahoma The Angelina College Lady Roadrunners showed off their No. 19 ranking with a convincing 101-78 win over Easter Oklahoma State College Wednesday night at Shands Gymnasium in Lufkin. An AC lineup featuring a bevy of new faces mixed with veterans saw all but one player make it into the scorebook. Freshman Tyeka Ranton had a sensational junior college debut, scoring 20 points to go with 12 rebounds to notch a double-double in her first game. Carenn Baylor, another freshman, made the most of her 12 minutes on the floor, scoring 13 points that included a pair of three-pointers late in the first half after the Lady Mountaineers had moved to within six points. Other Lady Roadrunners in double figures included Marcy Robinson with 14 points and three steals; and Erica Adair with 11 points. Sophomore Keldra Hall added eight points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Roadrunners. EOSC’s Rocia Medrano led the Lady Mountaineers with 14 points. Despite the win, AC head coach Byron Coleman said his team had plenty of work to do on the defensive end of the court. “It’s hard to argue with a 23-point victory, but if we’re going to give up 78 points per game we’re going to have trouble,” Coleman said. I was impressed with our offense, with the way we attacked the basket. “We’re not as big overall as we were last season, so we’re going to have to be a lot more sound defensively, and we’re going to have to move better around the perimeter.” The Lady Roadrunners (1-0) will travel to Waco for the weekend’s McLennan Classic at McLennan College, scheduled to run Friday and Saturday. AC will take on Weatherford College at 2 p.m. on Friday and McLennan at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The e-mail address for AC’s Sports Information Director is gstallard@angelina.edu
