No. 19 Lady Roadrunners 66, McLennan 58 The Lady Roadrunners overcame a sluggish shooting start – AC hit just two of its first 11 field-goal attempts over the game’s first seven minutes – to take the 66-58 win over the Highlassies. Donia Naylor scored 14 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to the lead the Lady ‘Runners, now 3-0 on the season. Erica Adair added 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers, and Keldra Hall finished with nine points and seven boards. Head coach Byron Coleman proved prophetic in the pre-game huddle, telling his players they had the opportunity to win the rebounding war on the offensive end. “I felt our advantage in this game might be on the offensive glass,” Coleman said, “so when we were missing shots early, I just told the girls to keep shooting, to find good shots and they’d fall –and if they didn’t, we’d be there for the rebound.” Naylor changed her own strategy in the second half: After driving the lane most of the first half, Naylor began shooting a short-range jumper with success, leading to her big night. “Donia kept driving the lane trying to draw a foul, but McLennan is very sound defensively, and they don’t foul in those situations,” Coleman said. “I told Donia to shoot it instead of drive it, and she started knocking down her short jumper.” AC will play Arkansas Baptist at 8 p.m. on Thursday while hosting the Angelina Classic at Shands Gym.
