1/2/2010 - Lady Roadrunners Topple 4th-Ranked Midland: AC Moves to 15-0 on the Season

The NJCAA polls currently show the Angelina College Lady Roadrunners holding down the 14th spot in the national rankings.

After Saturday, the Lady ‘Runners should vault even higher.

AC’s ladies handled the 4th-ranked Midland Lady Chaparrals Saturday in Waco, using a strong defensive effort and dominant post play to take a 56-45 win in Waco.

Tiara George led AC with 13 points, followed by Tyeka Ranton and Marcy Robinson with 10 each.

However, the story of the game was the Lady Roadrunners’ defensive work: AC held the Lady Chaps to just three field goals in the second half.

“We said before the game we could win this on the defensive end,” head coach Byron Coleman said. “Most of our offense came from our front line, and our post players had outstanding games.

“But the entire team committed to playing team defense, and that was the biggest reason for the win.”

The win came a day after the Lady ‘Runners beat Southwest Christian College 73-60 behind 18 points from Ranton, 10 from George and eight points each from Robinson, Carenn Baylor and Paigen Gilford, who nailed two big three-pointers in the win.

AC will open conference play Wednesday night against Lon Morris in Jacksonville.
