Lady Roadrunners Hosting Three-Day Weekend Hoops Fest It might be early in the season, but for the Lady Roadrunners of Angelina College, it’s never too early to gorge one’s self on college hoops. The 19th-ranked Lady ‘Runners and five other women’s teams will tip off the Angelina Classic beginning tonight at Shands Gymnasium in Lufkin. Panola and Southwestern Christian College tip off the event at 6 p.m. tonight, followed by AC and Arkansas Baptist – each of which has started the season with spotless 3-0 records. On Friday, SWCC and Arkansas Baptist tangle at 3 p.m., followed by Panola and McLennan at 5 p.m. and AC against Neosho College at 7 p.m. The tourney will close out on Saturday. McLennan and Neosho play at noon, followed by Panola and Arkansas Baptist at 2 p.m. and the Lady Roadrunners against SWCC at 4 p.m. Lady Roadrunner head coach Byron Coleman said the tournament will not only provide area fans an opportunity to witness some great basketball; but it will also get his own team geared up for even bigger tournaments – such as, hopefully, the Region XIV tournament in March. “We’ve got some very good teams coming in for this weekend, and any fan of women’s basketball will have a chance to see some great games,” Coleman said. “But we’re also looking at how this can help us down the road. You have to win three straight games in the conference tournament; how better to prepare for that than to have these games against solid teams?” AC is 3-0 on the season after taking two games in this past weekend’s McLennan Classic in Waco. The Lady Roadrunners beat Weatherford College 86-76 on Friday and McLennan’s Highlassies 66-58 in Saturday’s game.
