AC’S New Industrial Technology Building Hosting Open House

Now that the Angelina College Technology/Workforce Division has its new, state-of-the-art facility in place, it just can’t wait to show it off.

AC’s Industrial Technology Center building opened its doors for classes weeks ago. Now, the Technology/Workforce Division is inviting the public to see for itself with an Open House luncheon scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30.

“We will celebrate with a ribbon cutting at 11:30 AM to formally recognize this new facility dedicated to serving Angelina County and our service area,” Dr. Cecil Brewer, Director of AC’s Technology/Workforce Division, said.

With its ample space and updated equipment, the Industrial Technology Center, constructed for an estimated $1.8 million, currently houses AC’s Auto Technology program, headed by Bryan Nabbs; the Diesel Technology program, headed by Gary White; and the Welding Technology program, headed by Troy Edwards, Sr. and Troy Edwards, Jr.

According to Brewer, the building features new state-of-the-art welding fume/smoke collectors, and with its overhead crane both instructors and students can more closely approximate “shop work” projects in Welding Technology. Other features include an electric-lift for extended wheelbase light trucks and a four-wheel alignment system using the newest Hunter® laser alignment system for Automotive Technology. Diesel Technology program now has its own dedicated classroom and a larger shop area.

All three programs boast full classes, and the employment demand is high, according to Workforce Solutions and other informal sources.

“The advisory committees for Automotive Technology and Diesel Technology conducted their annual meeting in the new building and are very pleased with its features to serve our students,” Brewer said. “Several members of the Welding Technology committee have also visited the building and were very complimentary. Some of our area high school teachers and other college’s have visited too and liked what they saw.”
