11/14/2009 - No. 19 Lady Roadrunners Sweep Weekend with Win over SWCC: AC Now 6-0 on the Season

The Angelina College Lady Roadrunners made it a clean sweep of the weekend’s Angelina Classic with a 65-59 win over Southwestern Christian College Saturday at Shands Gym in Lufkin.

Donia Naylor led four Lady ‘Runners in double figures, finishing with 14 points. Tiara George, Danyetta Williams and Erica Adair added 10 each in keeping AC undefeated at 6-0.

SWCC’s Shalen Hamby and Chin Mbah led the Lady Rams in scoring with 10 each. Mbah added four blocks and five rebounds to her totals.

Playing in their third game in three days, the Lady Roadrunners hit the bench hard, getting 28 points from their substitutes. Carenn Baylor’s 24 minutes off the chair included six points, four assists and three steals; and Adair’s 10 points included a pair of threes late in the first half to extend AC’s first-half lead to 16. The Lady Rams managed a late charge behind a 9-2 run to close the gap to 53-49, but a bucket by Tyeka Ranton and free throws from Naylor, Baylor and George helped kill the rally.

In Saturday’s early games, Arkansas Baptist handled Panola 87-72 and McLennan beat Neosho County College 95-73.

The Lady Roadrunners (6-0) will host McLennan College Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the AC’s men. The Roadrunners will tip off against the Highlanders at 7:30 p.m.
