2/10/2010 - Coleman Wins 100th for Lady Roadrunners
Lady Roadrunners 65, Jacksonville 52
Byron Coleman notched his 100th career win as head coach of the Lady Roadrunners, but his team made him sweat for the first 32 minutes of Wednesday’s game.
After trailing most of the game – a cold shooting night kept the ball out of the bucket for AC – the Lady ‘Runners outscored the Lady Jags 25-7 over the last eight minutes. AC finally took the lead for good on Careen Baylor’s free throws with 6:25 remaining, and the Lady Roadrunners took the 65-52 win in Jacksonville.
Tyeka Ranton led AC with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Tiara George with 17 points, 12 boards and five blocks; and Carenn Baylor added 13 points, including a 4-for-4 effort from the free-throw line.
The Lady Roadrunners hit less than 35 percent for three-fourths of the game, but caught fire over those final eight minutes to allow Coleman to reach the century mark in just his fifth season as head coach.
The Lady Jaguars got 12 points each from Jamie Johnson, Precious Herrin and Tiesha Martin. Martin added 11 rebounds to complete the double-double.
The Lady Roadrunners (21-5, 9-5) will take Saturday off before traveling to Tyler on Wednesday. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
