POSITION: Counselor (Academic Advisor)

 

EMPLOYMENT DATE: Late Spring 2010

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in guidance and counseling, education, student personnel services, social work, or related area. Must have three years work experience in academic/career counseling or teaching at the secondary or post-secondary level. Preference will be given to community college experience. The qualified applicant must possess the ability to interact with a diverse student population. Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are required. LPC eligibility not required.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:  
1. Counseling (Academic Advising)
• Assist students with academic advising, degree planning and schedule building,
• Identify student needs and make referrals to appropriate community agencies,
• Assist students with career counseling,
• Assist with advising and orientation-related duties at off-campus teaching centers,
• Assist with advising and registration for all concurrent (high school) students.

2. Maintenance of college and university transfer guides
• Annual correspondence with colleges and universities where AC students are most likely to transfer to for the purpose of updating course equivalency guides.

3. Other duties
• Assist with the team teaching of the college’s study skills courses,
• Coordinate advisement training,
• Assist with campus tours,
• Perform other duties as assigned.

CONTRACT & SALARY: Twelve months contract. Assignment requires 40 hrs/week and some evening duty. Salary range $40,000-$42,000, commensurate with education and experience. Proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States must be verified for successful candidate.
