Five Steps for Applying to the Angelina College POLICE ACADEMY
STEP 1: Complete the FAST Pass to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check. The cost is $9.95 . You MUST contact the academy at 936/633-5328 when you have done the FAST check.
NOTE: Allow four weeks for the Police Academy to receive the results of your background check.
Following are the Commission on Law Enforcement requirements:
1. Be a US Citizen and 21 years of age upon graduation of the academy.
For Basic Peace Officer course you must have a HS Diploma OR a GED OR honorable discharge with 24 months of active military service.
2. Have never been convicted of any criminal offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B
misdemeanor in the last ten years. Also Not be on Probation.
3. Not currently under indictment for any criminal offense
4. Never convicted of any offense involving family violence.
5. Have been discharged from all military service under honorable conditions
6. No license issued by TCLEOSE previously revoked
7. Not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle
8. Not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearm
9. Education:

For Basic Jail Course you must possess a high school diploma or GED

STEP 2: Contact the Financial Aid Office to see if you are eligible for financial assistance. There are Pell Grants, VA Funding, GI Bill, student loans and other forms of financial aid available to assist you with tuition for the Police Academy. Call the Financial Aid office at (936) 633-5291 for information.
STEP 3: Complete a Work-Keys Test. To schedule a test, complete and return a WorkKeys registration form to the addressed listed on the form. Payment of $8 is required, and can be paid at the Angelina College Business Office (located in the Administration Building). This is due before taking your test.
WorkKey testing is performed in Room 139 of the Technology/Workforce Center. The WorkKey test is a reading comprehension test; applicants must score at least a level 5.
STEP 4: When your application to the police academy arrives in the mail, answer all questions completely. Make sure that you PRINT, use BLACK INK, and do not write on Page 6 until you are standing before a Notary Public. You will also need to make copies of the following documents in order to complete the application:
For the Basic Jail Course:
--Drivers License
--Social Security Card
--Birth Certificate
--High School Diploma or GED
--Copy of DD214 military discharge form
--Copy of WorkKeys Test Results
For the Basic Peace Officers Course:
--Drivers License
--Social Security Card
--Birth Certificate
--High School Diploma or GED OR honorable discharge with 24 months of active military service.

Note: If Level 5 has not been achieved, student must take a remedial reading class to improve skills
STEP 5: Submit your application and copies of all documents to the Police Academy. Once all documents have been received by the academy staff, you will be cleared to register and pay your tuition, or apply for your financial aid, with the college.
Academy spaces are limited. Spaces are filled in the order tuition is paid.
